Front Cover

This is my first front cover idea, I am not completely happy with it so far. I have another photograph that I would like to try with similar writing and headlines. I also will make a front cover with lots of the band logos on and less of just a normal font. I don't think that the date and price are not as clear as I would like.

Photoshop Use

I used the re-touch tool to perfect Jake's skin, making the finished product look a lot more professional.

URL

I checked my URL is not taken and
ghandi-music.com is not taken so I can put this on my magazine front cover.

Mock Up 1

This is my mock up using an artist that it is the music genre I am using for my music magazine, it has a dull black and white effect which I used on my first front cover. There isn't enough text on the left hand side and I don't think that the font looks professional and I think the colour scheme needs to be clearer. The fact that there isn't a header doesn't show any authenticity. There is a footer at the bottom but the text doesn't fill the banner which makes it look unprofessional as well as the 'Tumblr' logo not being properly cut out. The barcode fits well though and I think that the magazine name stands out well and is in an appropriate and professional font.

Front Cover Photo

Front Cover Shoot
I am using Jake Wardle as my model. The clothing style is skater but just very casual. Jake wore my dad's barbour jacket to give a grunge aesthetic.
I wanted to have a natural kind of atmosphere; to achieve this I took most of my pictures with bushes and trees as the background. Also as my music genre have grunge elements to it I used Ben who wore all black, has long black hair and is very tall with stubble, it had a really good effect.

Mock ups

Front cover mock-ups

This was my first attempt at a mock up when I had to use powerpoint as I didn't know how to use photoshop yet. It features my chosen masterhead and some bands that appeal to my target audience, along with an iconic Wavves logo. However, it has no text and the colours clash too much in my opinion.

This is my favourite mock up overall because it has grimes in the background and this extreme contrast for the background and writing that are only black and white.

LIIAR analysis

LIIAR Analysis

Language- props, colour, costume, actors, camera angles, design and emotion

Institution- whoever makes the media text

Ideology- values and messages

Audience- target audience/mass audience/niche market

Representation- what the magazine signifies

Language- the main colours are red, white and black with some yellow which all really contrast each other and are the signature colours for the whole brand of NME, they also use the same font consistently just in different sizes. This makes it easier for the target audience to recognise it. The background image has a really high contrast, with a really dark background gives the impression of it being at night time to reflect gigs, festivals and nights out.

Institution-

Ideology- the whole brand of NME are based on an alternative music taste for a younger audience but they also have very political articles within the magazine.

Audience- the audience is quite large as different bands will appeal to different members of the public but it general targets a sector of young adult market.

Representation- NME represents the younger generations music tastes

Analysis of Front Covers

The main colours of all these music magazines are red and black, as they are a heavy music genre.
Only Q and Kerrang have smaller pictures alongside the background cover photo.
Kerrang is clearly for a younger generation as they have more pictures than writing where as NME is for older audiences that enjoy reading about music and music icons as there is lots of articles described on the front. On Q and NME the magazine title are at the top left and Kerrang it is across the whole top, this draws attention to it. NME is the only magazine with a plug, I am going to use one of these on my front cover as I think they are very efficient for promoting a marketing idea.

    Price and Regularity
I am going to make my music magazine contain 70 pages so customers feel that they're getting value for their money, it will be in the lower price range: my target customers are students, young adults and teenagers all of which are on low and limited incomes. I will issue it monthly so my market have to wait and demand rise. Also, I don't think it would be as economical for students to spend £2.00 on a magazine every week on such a limited budget. If they're under 18 and work for their money at minimum wage, which is below £4 an hour than it could take them over half an hour to earn the money to buy a small magazine.

    College Magazine- Location and Photos

    Establishing the Location
I knew that I wanted to use the college features as the set for my background. Here are the two locations that I chose to take my pictures. I used a landscape photo to show the outdoor location, it is very open and airy. I am going to use the college's colour scheme in my front cover to keep the theme similar. The 'student walking up the stairs' and holding folders is a very generic style for college magazines but I think that it works well because it illustrates what most students are doing a lot of the time.

    Selection of Photos Taken

Most of the photos I took were portrait of Millie holding folders stood outside Ash or walking down the stairs in Oak. I got 1 photo of my friend Will stood on the stairs but he wasn't holding any folders, a feature I wanted in my front cover photo, and my target audience are girls as feminism will feature in my magazine.

    Music Magazine Mood board

My chosen genre is a mixture of indie rock and grunge music that has been established in the lower class of society in America. There is a common theme of the bands being skateboarders who drink and smoke a lot. The most well known band that I will use to feature in my magazine will probably be Enter Shikari who are more heavy electronic music that have strong views on how society is and the way the government affects our lives. This is a common theme throughout all of my genre, the bands are very politically conscious.
