LIIAR analysis

LIIAR Analysis

Language- props, colour, costume, actors, camera angles, design and emotion

Institution- whoever makes the media text

Ideology- values and messages

Audience- target audience/mass audience/niche market

Representation- what the magazine signifies

Language- the main colours are red, white and black with some yellow which all really contrast each other and are the signature colours for the whole brand of NME, they also use the same font consistently just in different sizes. This makes it easier for the target audience to recognise it. The background image has a really high contrast, with a really dark background gives the impression of it being at night time to reflect gigs, festivals and nights out.

Institution-

Ideology- the whole brand of NME are based on an alternative music taste for a younger audience but they also have very political articles within the magazine.

Audience- the audience is quite large as different bands will appeal to different members of the public but it general targets a sector of young adult market.

Representation- NME represents the younger generations music tastes

Analysis of Front Covers

The main colours of all these music magazines are red and black, as they are a heavy music genre.
Only Q and Kerrang have smaller pictures alongside the background cover photo.
Kerrang is clearly for a younger generation as they have more pictures than writing where as NME is for older audiences that enjoy reading about music and music icons as there is lots of articles described on the front. On Q and NME the magazine title are at the top left and Kerrang it is across the whole top, this draws attention to it. NME is the only magazine with a plug, I am going to use one of these on my front cover as I think they are very efficient for promoting a marketing idea.
